As most of you know, my daughter Daniella (12 y/o) entered the Naples Zoo photo contest and came to be the Runner Up in the Youth Category. Me, also being a photographer, was very proud of my girl accomplishing this as such a young age.
This was her winning image.
Anyways, today, she received the following email and I’m so happy for her and proud of her.

First of all, let me say congratulations to all of you for being named winners in the Naples Zoo photo contest.
My name is Jay Schlichter and I am the editor of the Community section in the Naples Daily News. I was given your contact information from Tim Tetzlaff, the zoo’s director of conservation and communications.
Every year, we have featured the winning photos in our newspaper along with just the names of the winners.
This year, we wanted to try something a little bit different. We wanted to ask all of you if you were interested in writing a short story about your photo, how you got that great shot, why you love to take photos of wildlife, and how you feel about winning.
Here’s the coolest part. We would like to feature all eight photos and your stories on the front page of the Community section – one a day for eight days. For those of you who are interested, here is what we would be looking for – a story in the 300 to 500 word range. It should include a little about yourself in addition to how you got the photo, etc., mentioned above.
I understand that some of you might not be interested in writing a story.
That’s fine, too. We’ll still try to publish your winning photo and name in the section. I can at least guarantee that it will appear on our website at naplesnews.com.
But we wanted to offer all of you the chance to not only get your photo published, but to have an interesting story about you and your photo published as well. I hope to hear back from many, if not all, of you!
