On Sunday, August 29th, I had the pleasure of hanging out with ShootMiami at the FARA car races in the Homestead Speedway. This is my first time photographing a car race and I can say that it was hard… Not a little hard, but EXTREMELY hard.

I have been preparing for this event for about 2 weeks now, and by that, I mean, reading about motor sport photography, specially, the awesome blog of our friend Scott Kelby. Overall, I am very happy with the photographs I came out with.

These are some of my all-time favorite from this event.

For some reason, this has become a tradition with me. Every year in the month of August, Fairchild Tropical Gardens has FREE admission to their grounds (Every Sunday of August) and of course, instead of me taking advantage of this, I always forget and go only once and usually it is the last Sunday of August.

After a quick edit of the photographs today, these two photographs jumped at me. Actually, both of them jumped at me the moment I released the shutter.

I am sure that you have had that moment. The moment when you chimp at your LCD and go… “Exactly what I wanted… This is a PRINT”… Right? Yes, I’m sure you’ve been there.

I’ve decided to send these two photographs to print to MPIX as my PhotoLab of choice. Both of these images will be printed in their incredible Metallic Paper.

Hope you enjoy the selection. If you like any of these prints and would like to own a copy of it for your wall, please feel free to let me know.

Andrew S. Gibson did a wonderful job explaining, detailing his post-processing and his whole thinking behind these 9 photographs presented here.

The Magic of Black & White – Part III, Nine Photos, takes us through nine gorgeous black and white images with the goal of teaching more advanced techniques to give our images more subtlety and power. Clearly taught in Photoshop, and 5 of the lessons in Photoshop Elements, Andrew takes us through Toning, Split Toningk, Exposure Blending, Textures, and the creation of Diptyches and Triptyches, all without losing sight of the idea that our work should be driven by intent with the goal of creating photographs that honour the Artist’s need for expression and the Geek’s need for excellence of craft. And all that without getting mired down – the examples and the illustrations Andrew provides compliment his clear teaching style and make this book a pleasure to read.

I have always done my own design and to be honest, I’m getting sick of my own designs so maybe if I have few people designing and giving me choices, it will be better and I can probably keep those for a longer period of time. The winner of this contest will receive a 9×12 Metallic Print of their choice from my Facebook Page

So in order to do this, I have decided to make this a contest.

This is how the contest works:

Create your Photography business card design and submit it to ray@raymedphotography.com by 08/31/2010

I will select a winner based on concept and design by 9/6/2010

Once the winner is chosen, the winner can choose their selection of image from my Facebook Page

I hope you take part of this contest and I can’t wait to see the designs.

Thanks!
